specialtyはspecialに名詞語尾-tyが付いた語で、specialはラテン語specialis、さらにspecies「種類・見た目」にさかのぼります。もとは「特定の種類のもの」なので「その人ならではの専門」へつながり、speciesやspecificも同じspec系の仲間です。
Specialty is formed from special and the noun ending -ty. Special comes from Latin specialis, from species, meaning "kind," "type," or "appearance."
