specialtyはspecialに名詞語尾-tyが付いた語で、specialはラテン語specialis、さらにspecies「種類・見た目」にさかのぼります。もとは「特定の種類のもの」なので「その人ならではの専門」へつながり、speciesやspecificも同じspec系の仲間です。
