解説 Definition
subgenres は subgenre の複数形で、大きなジャンルの中をさらに分けた下位カテゴリーを指します。音楽・映画・文学・ゲームなどで、それぞれのスタイルや特徴によって区別されます。
Subgenres are smaller categories within a larger genre. They are often used when talking about music, films, books, or games. Each subgenre has its own style or features, but it still belongs to the main genre.
使い方 Usage
- subgenres of ～ で「～のサブジャンル」。of の後ろに音楽や文学などの上位ジャンルを置きます。 Use subgenres of followed by the larger genre, such as rock music or fantasy literature.
- 1つなら a subgenre、複数なら subgenres。mixes several subgenres で「複数のサブジャンルを混ぜ合わせる」と表せます。 Use a subgenre for one category and subgenres for several. Mixes several subgenres describes combining elements from multiple subgenres.
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
sub-「下位」＋ genre「ジャンル」で、大きなジャンルから枝分かれした細分類を思い浮かべます。末尾の -s は複数形の印です。

ラテン語の接頭辞sub-（下・副）とフランス語genre（種類）の合成語。genreはラテン語genus（種・類）に遡り、generate（生む）やgeneral（全般の）と同根。「大分類の下位区分」という語の構造がそのまま意味を表している。
