talukはウルドゥー語ta'alluq、さらにアラビア語系の「結びつき・所属」にさかのぼるインド行政語です。土地がどこに“属しているか”という発想が、そのまま領地や行政区の意味へ育ったと見ると腑に落ちます。talukaやtalukdarが関連語です。
Taluk came into English from Urdu and other South Asian languages, from a word related to Arabic ta'alluq, meaning connection or belonging. The central idea was that land or authority is attached to something or someone. From that, the word developed into the name of an estate or administrative district; taluka and talukdar are related forms.
