ホオジロはホオジロ科に属する小型の野鳥で、地上で昆虫や種子をついばみながら暮らします。雄は顔に特徴的な模様をもち、春になるとさえずりがよく響きます。体色は種類によって異なり、茶や白、黒などの落ち着いた羽毛を持つ個体が多く見られます。
