熱量を表す単位で、通常 1 therm は 100,000 BTU に相当します。特に天然ガスの使用量やエネルギー計算で使われることがあります。
A therm is a unit for measuring heat energy. It is commonly used in the gas and energy industry, especially for measuring the amount of energy in natural gas.

therm は thermometer「温度計」や thermal「熱の」の therm と同じ「熱」のまとまりを手掛かりにする。ただし therm は温度ではなく、使った熱エネルギーの量を数える単位で、1 therm＝100,000 BTU。天然ガス会社の請求書に gas usage: 30 therms と記載され、その個数に応じて料金が決まる場面を思い浮かべるとよい。kilowatt-hour が電力量の単位なのに対し、therm は特にガスの使用量で目にしやすく、約29.3 kWh相当という対応も押さえると混同しにくい。
