覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
原形 transport「人・物を別の場所へ運ぶ」に -ing を付けた形で、つづりは変わりません。語末に /ɪŋ/ が加わり「トランスポーティング」のように発音します。be transporting なら輸送中、Transporting medicine のように文頭なら「輸送すること」と覚えましょう。
Connect transporting directly with the base verb transport, meaning “carry from one place to another.” The form is made simply by adding -ing, with no spelling change; the ending is pronounced /ɪŋ/. In “They are transporting food,” it forms the progressive and shows that the movement is in progress. In “Transporting medicine safely is important,” it acts as a gerund and names the activity. Remember the practical pattern transport something to a place or transport it by truck, ship, or air.

transporting の語源・成り立ち Etymology
transporting は transport「運ぶ」の進行形。古フランス語 transporter、さらにラテン語 transportare にさかのぼり、trans-「越えて」+ portare「運ぶ」から成る。portable や export と同じ語根で、「向こう側へ運ぶ」ので輸送する。
Transporting is formed from transport plus the participial suffix -ing, without a change in the spelling of the base. Transport entered English through Old French transporter and comes from Latin transportare, built from trans-, “across,” and portare, “to carry.” The same Latin root appears in portable. The word therefore developed from the concrete idea of carrying something across or beyond a place.
