無断の
解説 Definition
Not officially accepted as having a valid reason or permission, especially when describing an absence or lateness. It reflects an institution's formal classification rather than proving that the person had no reason at all.
Memory Tip
an unexcused absence「無断欠席」、unexcused leave「無断休暇」、be marked as unexcused「無断扱いにされる」が頻出。
Break unexcused into un- “not” and excused “officially accepted or permitted.” Picture an attendance record where an authorized illness is marked excused, but an absence without accepted notice is marked the opposite way.

Three unexcused absences may result in a warning.

Etymology
It combines un- “not” with excused, the past participle of excuse. Excuse comes from Latin excusare, meaning “to free from responsibility.”
