まず grounded を「ground（土台・地面）にしっかり乗った」と捉えると覚えやすいです。grounded argument は事実や証拠に支えられた主張で、そこに否定の un- が付くと「土台がない→根拠がない」。特に ungrounded claim / fear / allegation の形で見ると定着しやすいです。単に「間違い」ではなく、「裏づけが薄く信用しにくい」という感触。grounded には「地に足のついた」の意味もあるので、その反対として覚えるのも有効です。

un-（否定）+ grounded の構成。ground は古英語 grund（底・基盤）に由来し、ゲルマン祖語に遡る。関連語: groundwork（土台）、foundation（基礎）。「基盤に置かれていない＝根拠がない」という比喩的意味が生まれた。
Ungrounded is formed from un- and grounded. Ground comes from Old English grund, meaning "bottom" or "foundation," and goes back to an older Germanic root. From the idea of standing on a firm base, grounded developed the figurative sense of being well supported, so ungrounded came to mean "without a solid basis." A related English word is groundwork.
