覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
uni- は unicorn や uniform にもある「1つ」の接頭辞です。unicameral は「1つの chamber、つまり議院をもつ」と分解すると、一院制の議会を表す語として覚えやすいです。対語は bicameral(二院制)で、bi- が「2」を表します。camera と見た目は似ていますが、ここでは政治制度の chamber「議院」と結びつけて覚えるのが実用的です。
The prefix `uni-` means "one," as in `unicorn` or `uniform`. So `unicameral` is easier to remember as "one chamber," especially if you compare it with `bicameral`, where `bi-` means two. It often appears with words like `parliament` or `legislature`. Do not let the middle part make you think of a `camera` machine.

unicameral の語源・成り立ち Etymology
ラテン語 uni-(一つの)+ camera(部屋、議場)+ -al(形容詞語尾)から。cameraは元々「丸天井の部屋」を意味し、議会の議場を指すようになった。関連語: bicameral(二院制)、chamber(部屋)。「一つの議場だけ」→「一院制」という意味の成り立ち。
Unicameral comes from Latin uni-, meaning "one," and camera, meaning "chamber" or "room," plus the adjective ending -al. Camera originally referred to a room with a vaulted roof, and later it was used for an assembly chamber. From there, unicameral came to mean having only one legislative chamber, unlike bicameral.
