二院制

議会や立法機関が二つの院で構成されていることを表す形容詞です。典型的には上院と下院のような二つの議院を持つ制度や議会について使います。
Bicameral describes a system with two separate parts or chambers, especially in government. It is most often used for a legislature that has two houses, such as an upper house and a lower house. This is a formal political term.

bi- が付けば「2」を表す語が多い、とまず押さえると覚えやすい。bicycle, bilingual と同じ感覚で、bicameral は「2つの部屋をもつ」→上院と下院の2院から成る議会制度。政治分野では unicameral（1院制）と対比すると定着しやすい。よく出る形は bicameral legislature。なお bipartisan（超党派の）とは形が似ていても意味は別なので混同しない。
`Bi-` usually means two, like in `bicycle` or `bilingual`. In `bicameral`, the second part relates to chambers, or rooms, so think of two chambers. It becomes easy to remember when you compare it with `unicameral`, which has only one chamber.
