巻かれた、または丸められた状態から広げられた状態を表します。形容詞として、紙、地図、カーペットなどが巻かれずに開かれている様子に使われます。
Unrolled means opened out from a rolled shape so that it lies flatter or longer. It is used for things like paper, fabric, maps, or sleeping bags. It can also describe something after it has been expanded from a tightly wrapped form.

roll = くるくる巻く を知っていれば、unrolled は「巻いた状態がほどけて広がった」と追えます。rolled up が「巻き上げた・丸めた」なら、その逆です。紙、地図、カーペット、袖のように roll できる物が広がった場面で出やすい語。unfolded も近いですが、fold は「折る」、roll は「巻く」。何を元に戻したのかを区別すると混同しにくく、unroll a scroll / unroll the carpet の形でも覚えやすいです。
Think of `roll` first: you roll up a map, carpet, or sleeve. `Unrolled` is the reverse, when the rolled thing is opened out again. It is useful to compare it with `unfolded`: `fold` is for bending, but `roll` is for winding.

unrolled は un-「逆にする・ほどく」＋ rolled から成る語で、roll は古フランス語を経てラテン語 rotula「小さな車輪」にさかのぼります。『くるくる巻いたものを元に戻す』イメージなので、巻物や紙が広げられた状態を表す形容詞だと分かります。関連語は roll, rotate。
`Unrolled` joins `un-` in the sense of reversing an action with `rolled`. `Roll` came through Old French from Latin `rotula`, meaning "little wheel," which also gave English words like `rotate`. The meaning developed from the idea of something turned or wound in a round form to the reverse state, spread out again.
