解説 Definition
産科医学において、羊膜を穿刺して羊水を採取する検査法。胎児の染色体異常や先天異常を検出するために行われる。
Amniocentesis is a medical test done during pregnancy. In this test, a small amount of the fluid around the baby is taken and examined to check for certain health or genetic conditions. It is a formal medical word mainly used in prenatal care.

amniotic fluid（羊水）や amniotic sac（羊膜）の amni- を見たら、妊娠・胎児まわりを連想すると覚えやすいです。後半の -centesis は医学語で「針で刺して液を抜く処置」によく出る型で、thoracentesis などと同系統。つまり amnio + centesis で「羊水に針を入れて採取する検査」。blood test や biopsy と違い、採るのは血液でも組織でもなく amniotic fluid で、主に出生前検査の文脈で出ると押さえると混同しにくくなります。
Notice `amnio-` from `amniotic fluid` and `amniotic sac`, so think of pregnancy and the baby before birth. The ending `-centesis` is a medical pattern for using a needle to take out fluid.
