酸素欠乏症；酸素不足による状態。
Anoxia is a condition in which there is no oxygen, or almost no oxygen, reaching the body's tissues or organs. It is used in medicine and biology when talking about breathing problems, brain injury, or damage caused by lack of oxygen. It is more severe than simply having low oxygen.

anoxia はまず語中の ox を oxygen と結びつけると覚えやすい。中心イメージは「酸素のない状態」。接頭辞 an- は absence を作る型として見ておくと、anoxic も同じ発想で追える。似た hypoxia は「酸素が少ない」で、anoxia はそれより強く「ほぼ無い」。医療文脈で brain damage, tissue death など深刻な結果と結びつきやすいので、“oxygen が消えた非常事態”として固定すると残りやすい。
Look at `ox` and connect it to `oxygen`. The front part `an-` often gives a sense of absence, so `anoxia` can stick in your mind as a state where oxygen is missing. It also helps to compare it with `hypoxia`: `hypo-` is low, but `an-` is almost none.
