ギリシャ語などに見られる文法形式で、出来事の進行などの内部構造に焦点を当てず、全体をひとまとまりとして捉える。直説法では過去を表すことが多いが、アオリスト自体が常に過去や完了を意味するわけではない。
The aorist is a verb form used in some languages, especially in grammar studies of Greek and similar languages. It usually refers to an action in a general way, without focusing on how long it lasted or whether it was repeated.

aorist は、進行形や反復表現のように出来事の「中身」を追わず、出来事全体を一回のまとまりとして置く時制・相だと覚えると残りやすいです。映画でいえば再生ではなくスナップ写真。『どのくらい続いたか』『何度も起きたか』は語らず、『起きた』だけを示す感覚です。ギリシャ語学習では imperfect が経過を見せ、aorist は一発で出来事を置く、という対比で覚えると混同しにくいです。
