Aught is an old or formal word that can mean "anything" or "at all." In some contexts, especially with numbers, it can also mean zero. This word is uncommon in modern everyday English and is mostly seen in older, literary, or fixed expressions.
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
覚える軸はまず対語の `naught`。`n-` が付くと否定っぽく見えるので、`naught = nothing / zero`、その相方の `aught` は「何か・いくらか」と置くと整理しやすいです。ただし古風な語なので、現代では単独で頻出というより `for aught I know` のような決まった形や `the aughts`（2000年代）で見かけることが多め。つづりが似る `ought`（〜すべき）とは別語なので混同注意。
Remember it together with `naught`. The `n-` in `naught` can remind you of `no`, so `naught` is nothing or zero, while `aught` is something or any amount. Also be careful not to confuse it with `ought`, which is a completely different word.

aught は古英語 awiht「何か、少しでも」に由来し、a- は「いつでも」、wiht は「もの」を表しました。つまり元の感覚は「何であれ何か」で、そこから「少しでも」の意味になります。なお「ゼロ」の語義は naught の切れ目の取り違えで生じたもので、wight や naught が近縁です。
Aught comes from Old English awiht, meaning "anything" or "something at all." Its parts meant roughly "ever" and "thing," so the original idea was "anything whatever." From there it came to mean "anything" or "even a small amount," while its opposite form naught developed separately.
