Memory Tip

基本形は a bevy of+複数名詞で、a bevy of birds「鳥の群れ」、a bevy of reporters「記者団」、a bevy of assistants「大勢の助手」と塊で覚えましょう。

Picture several similar birds or people arriving together as one lively group. Learn it in the fixed pattern a bevy of, as in a bevy of birds or a bevy of reporters.

例文

A bevy of birds flew over the lake.

Etymology

It came through Middle English from Old French bevée, which referred to drinking or a drinking bout. The source connects it with Latin bibere, meaning to drink.
