まず centenary＝100周年 を軸に置くと覚えやすい。bicentenary はその前に bi- が付いて『100周年が2つ分』と見れば200周年。anniversary が単に「記念日」なのに対し、bicentenary は年数がはっきり限定される語。the bicentenary of independence や bicentenary celebrations の形で、建国・創立・誕生など大きな節目に使われやすい。米語では bicentennial もよく見るのでセットで整理すると混同しにくい。
Start with `centenary`, which is 100 years. Add `bi-`, meaning two, and you get "two hundreds" = 200 years. It is often used for big historic milestones, and in American English you will also see `bicentennial`.
