bobble は中英語 bobben 系の bob「ぴょこぴょこ動く」からできた反復形で、-le が小刻みな繰り返しを添えます。球を手元で何度も揺らして扱い損ねる感じから「落球」の意味になり、bob や bobblehead も同系です。
