A centroid is the center point of a shape or object, especially in mathematics and geometry. It is the point where the whole shape can be balanced evenly. The word is common in technical, scientific, and engineering contexts.

center を知っていれば核はつかみやすい語です。-oid は asteroid, android のように「〜のようなもの」を作るので、centroid はまず「center っぽい代表点」と置くと覚えやすいです。ただの真ん中 center ではなく、図形の形や質量のバランスをならした結果として定まる“つり合いの中心”。幾何では triangle centroid、データ分析では cluster centroid のように、ばらついたもの全体を1点で代表させる場面で出ます。midpoint と混同しないのがコツです。
