constituency は constitute + -ency から成り、ラテン語 constituere「共に立てる」が元です。constitution や constituent と同根で、『一つに組まれた人々の集まり』から、代表を選ぶ選挙区の意味になりました。
Constituency comes from constitute plus the noun ending -ency. Constitute goes back to Latin constituere, meaning "to set up" or "to establish together."
