disc はラテン語 discus、さらにギリシャ語 diskos「円盤・投げ輪」に由来し、まずは丸く平たい物を指しました。そこからレコード盤や椎間板にも広がったので、意味の芯は一貫して「円い盤」。discus や disk も同語源です。
