イルカという意味です。英語の dolphin は海にすむ知能の高い哺乳類を指し、日本語のカタカナ語「ドルフィン」は名称や商品名などで使われることがありますが、普通の和訳は「イルカ」です。

dolphin の語源・成り立ち Etymology
dolphin は古フランス語 dauphin を経て、ラテン語 delphinus、さらにギリシャ語 delphis「イルカ」にさかのぼります。語形は違っても古くから同じ海獣を指し、学名風の delphinidae や delphic が同根です。
Dolphin entered Middle English through Old French forms such as dalfin or dauphin. These came from Latin delphinus, which in turn was borrowed from Greek delphis, the ancient name for the same marine animal. The spelling changed as the word passed through these languages before reaching its modern English form. The scientific family name Delphinidae preserves a form closer to the Greek and Latin ancestry of dolphin.
