覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
expressed は express に -ed を付けた過去形・過去分詞で、ここでは「外に表された」という形容詞的用法。語末 /s/ が無声音なので -ed は /t/ と発音する。expressed feelings・idea・concern や、the message expressed in the letter の形で、内面が言葉や態度として外へ出た場面を覚える。
Start with the base verb express, then add -ed to form expressed. Since express ends in the voiceless sound /s/, the -ed ending is pronounced /t/. For the adjectival meaning, picture something internal—an idea, feeling, or concern—being made visible or understandable through language or behavior. Useful patterns include expressed feelings, an expressed opinion, and the message expressed in the letter. This focuses on content that has actually been communicated, unlike implied, which describes a meaning suggested without being stated or directly shown.

expressed の語源・成り立ち Etymology
expressed は express の過去分詞で、語源はラテン語 exprimere「外へ押し出す」。ex-「外へ」+ premere「押す」から成り、pressure や depress と同根なので、「内にあるものを外へ押し出す」ことから「表現された」という意味になった。
Expressed is the past-tense and past-participle form of express. Express ultimately comes from Latin exprimere, formed from ex-, “out,” and premere, “to press.” Its literal image is therefore that of pressing something outward. This physical idea developed into the sense of representing or communicating what is held within the mind. The adjective expressed applies that development to an idea, feeling, or message already made known.
