後期ラテン語 concernere（con- 共に＋cernere ふるい分ける＝混ぜ合わせる→関わる）から。discern（見分ける）やcertain（確かな）と同根。物事が自分と「混ざり合って関わる」感覚から、気がかり・懸念の意味が生まれた。
Concern comes from Late Latin concernere. It is built from con- and cernere, a verb meaning to separate or sift, which is also seen in discern and certain. The meaning moved from things being mixed or involved together to the idea of something closely connected to a person. From that, it developed the sense of worry or personal interest.
