無関心とは、何かや誰かに対して興味や関心を持たない状態のことです。感情的な反応がなく、冷淡または無感動な態度を示します。無関心は時に冷酷さや怠惰の表れと見なされることもあります。
Indifference is a lack of interest, concern, or care about something. A person who shows indifference does not react strongly because the matter seems unimportant to them. The word is often used for attitudes toward people, problems, or events.

indifference は in-「否定」＋difference。ラテン語 differre「運び分ける」由来の difference に in- が付いて「違いを立てない」が原義で、そこから「どちらでも同じ→関心を向けない」という意味になった。関連語は different, differentiate。
Indifference comes from in- meaning "not" and difference, from Latin differre, "to carry apart" or "make unlike." The early idea was "not making a difference" between things.
