A topic is the subject or main idea that people are talking or writing about. It is commonly used in conversations, lessons, meetings, and articles. A topic can be broad or narrow depending on the situation.

`topic` は会話や文章で「今、上に載っている話題」として覚えると定着しやすい語です。`on the topic of ...`（…の話題で）、`a hot topic`（注目の話題）、`change the topic`（話題を変える）など、話の中心に置かれる名詞としてよく出ます。`title` が表題、`subject` が科目・主題まで広いのに対し、`topic` は会話や議論で取り上げる個別の話題、という感覚を持つと使い分けやすいです。
