覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
`topic` は会話や文章で「今、上に載っている話題」として覚えると定着しやすい語です。`on the topic of ...`（…の話題で）、`a hot topic`（注目の話題）、`change the topic`（話題を変える）など、話の中心に置かれる名詞としてよく出ます。`title` が表題、`subject` が科目・主題まで広いのに対し、`topic` は会話や議論で取り上げる個別の話題、という感覚を持つと使い分けやすいです。

topic はラテン語 Topica、さらにギリシャ語 topikos／topos「場所」に由来します。もともとは議論の論点を見つける「共通の場所」を指し、そこから今の「話題・主題」の意味になりました。関連語は `topical`、`topos`。
