覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
原形 feature に規則的な -ed が付き、語末 /r/ の後なので featured は通常 /ˈfiːtʃərd/ と一続きに発音する。記事・曲・商品・出演者が目立つ位置に選ばれた場面を思い浮かべ、「featured article」「featured guest」の形で覚える。単なる famous ではなく、特集・推薦枠に置かれた意味。
Start with feature, meaning to give someone or something special prominence, and add the regular -ed ending. Featured is generally pronounced /ˈfiːtʃərd/, without an extra syllable for -ed. Picture a website, magazine, or show placing one item in its main display: a featured article, featured song, featured product, or featured guest. The word does not merely mean famous. It means deliberately highlighted, specially presented, or placed in an important position for the audience’s attention.

featured の語源・成り立ち Etymology
featureの過去分詞形が形容詞化したもの。featureはラテン語factura(作ること)からフランス語faiture経由で英語に入った。語根のfac-は「作る」を意味し、factory(工場)やmanufacture(製造)と同根。「際立つ特徴を持つ→注目の」へと意味が発展した。
Featured is the past participle of feature, later used as an adjective. Feature came through French from a Latin source related to factura, “a making or formation,” from facere, “to make.” The noun developed from the form or construction of something to a distinctive part or characteristic. The verb then came to mean presenting something as an important attraction, producing the adjectival sense “specially highlighted or prominently presented.”
