franchising の語源・成り立ち Etymology
古フランス語franchise(自由・特権)に由来し、語根はfranc(自由な)。元はフランク族が自由民であったことから。英語で事業権の付与を意味するようになった。関連語にfrank(率直な)、France(フランス)がある。
Franchising is formed from the verb franchise and the suffix -ing. Franchise came through Old French franchise, referring to freedom, exemption, or a granted privilege, and is related to franc, “free.” The historical idea of granting a legal right or privilege later developed into the commercial sense: authorizing another operator to use a business name and system. Franchising consequently names the process or practice of making and operating such arrangements.
