解説 Definition
半分ずつとは、あるものを二等分したそれぞれの部分を指す複数形の名詞である。一つのものを二つに分けたときの各部分を意味し、「半分半分」という概念を表す。スポーツの試合では前半と後半の両方を指す言葉としても使われる。

halves の語源・成り立ち Etymology
古英語 healf（半分）の複数形で、ゲルマン祖語 *halbaz に遡る。ドイツ語 halb（半分の）と同根。half が halves と複数形で v に変わるのは、古英語で母音間の f が有声化した名残。関連語に halfway（中間）、behalf（～のために＝半分の側に立つ）がある。
