まず『kは読まず naif と発音する kn-語』として覚えると残りやすいです。know, knee と同じく先頭の k は無音。意味は blade のような『刃そのもの』ではなく、刃が付いた道具全体で、sword より小さく日常的に使う刃物。kitchen knife, pocket knife, steak knife, knife and fork まで一緒に覚えると使用場面が固定されます。複数形が knives になる点も混同しやすいのでセットで。
