industrial はラテン語 industria「勤勉・活動」にさかのぼり、そこに -al「〜に関する」と -ist「それに従事する人」が付いた語です。つまり industrialist は『産業に携わる人』で、勤勉に事業を営む人という原義が見えます。industrious や industry も同根です。
