interventions の語源・成り立ち Etymology
ラテン語 intervenire(間に来る)から。inter-(間に)+ venire(来る)に分解できる。関連語:intervene(介入する)、convention(会議)。二者の「間に入って来る」行為が転じて「仲裁・干渉」の意になった。
Interventions is the plural of intervention, a word derived through Latin intervention- from intervenire, meaning “to come between.” Intervenire combines inter-, “between,” and venire, “to come.” The word first centers on entering between people, events, or stages of a process. Its modern uses extend this idea to deliberate medical, educational, political, or social actions intended to alter an outcome. The final -s marks the regular English plural.
