larder の語源・成り立ち Etymology
古フランス語 lardier がもとで、さらにラテン語 lardum（ラード・脂身）にさかのぼります。もとは「肉や脂身をしまう場所」だったため、larder は食料庫全体を指すようになりました。lard, lardon も同根で、保存食の感覚が語の背景にあります。
Larder came into English from Old French lardier, a word for a place where bacon or fatty meat was stored. It goes back to Latin lardum, meaning "fat" or "bacon."
