Malagasy is the main language spoken in Madagascar. The word can also refer to the people of Madagascar or describe something from that country. In language study, it is usually used as the name of the language.

Malagasy はマダガスカル語の自称 Malagasy に由来し、英語ではフランス語形とも接触しつつ定着した語です。Malagasy people や Malagasy culture と同じ語幹をもち、人びとの呼び名がそのまま言語名にもなると分かる語です。
Malagasy comes from Malagasy, the self-name used in the language of Madagascar, and it entered English partly through contact with French forms as well.
