markdown は down が入るので、まず「下がる方向の語」と固定すると残りやすいです。価格の話では mark down で「値札を下げる」、その結果の名詞が markdown。反対は markup なので、up / down の対で覚えると混同しにくくなります。discount も近いですが、markdown は店側が元の価格を改定して下げる感じが強め。a 20% markdown, seasonal markdowns のように、売り場・sale・値札の場面と結びつけると定着します。ITの Markdown とは別物です。
