解説 Definition
マークアップとは、テキストや他のコンテンツにタグや注釈、メタデータを付け足して構造や意図を明示する手法です。文書やウェブページでは、マークアップ言語を使って見出しや段落などを区別し、表示や処理を制御します。別の意味では、原価に上乗せされた分の価格差を指し、その上乗せ分が利益にあたります。
Markup is the amount added to the cost of something in order to decide its selling price. It is mainly used in business, sales, and retail contexts. In technical fields, it can also mean special symbols or tags added to text to control structure or formatting.
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
mark（印を付ける）＋ up（付け足す・上に重ねる）で考えると覚えやすい語です。本文そのものを書くというより、見出し・段落・リンクなどに“印を追加して構造を見える化する”作業だと捉えると定着します。HTML markup, markup language の形でよく出ます。なお markup には「値上げ幅」の意味もあるので、文脈がウェブ・文書処理なら「タグ付け・構造化」の方だと切り分けると混乱しません。
