dis-「離して・否定して」+ claim「叫んで要求する」から成る語で、claim はラテン語 clamare「叫ぶ」に由来する。proclaim や reclaim と同じ根を持ち、もう自分の権利だと叫ばない感覚から「放棄する」になった。
Disclaim comes from dis- "away, apart, not" + claim. Claim goes back through French to Latin clamare, meaning "to call out" or "cry aloud," which also appears in proclaim and reclaim.
