母方の系統を通じて血統、所属、相続などをたどることに関する形容詞です。必ずしも母から娘へ直接受け継がれるという意味に限らず、女性側の家系を基準にする点が核心です。
Matrilineal describes a system in which family line, inheritance, or identity is passed through the mother's side. It is often used in anthropology, history, and discussions of culture. Usage note: it refers to family descent, not necessarily social or political power.
