解説 Definition
女性、とくに母親や年長の女性が家庭や社会で主要な権威を持つ体制や慣習を表す形容詞。単に血統が母方で受け継がれるという意味よりも、女性側が指導的立場にあることを強く示す語として使われ、制度や共同体の説明でよく用いられる。
Matriarchal describes a society, family, or system in which women, especially mothers, have the main power or authority. It is often used in anthropology, history, and social discussion. It can also describe a group that is strongly centered around female leadership.
