A multimeter is a tool used to measure electrical values such as voltage, current, and resistance. It is commonly used by electricians, engineers, and people repairing electronic devices. Some multimeters are digital, while others are analog.

multi は「複数」、meter は speedometer や thermometer の meter と同じで「測る機器」と押さえると覚えやすいです。つまり multimeter は「一つでいろいろ測れる meter」。voltage・current・resistance を切り替えて測る場面をセットで思い浮かべると定着します。use a multimeter, check the voltage, test continuity などの言い方も頻出。voltmeter や ammeter が1種類だけ測るのに対し、multimeter はまとめ役だと区別すると忘れにくいです。
