musculature はフランス語 musculature を経て、ラテン語 musculus「筋肉」に由来します。musculus は本来「小さなネズミ」で、皮膚の下で筋が動く様子をネズミに見立てた語だとわかると、muscle や mouse とのつながりが印象に残ります。
