新しく発明されたり考案されたりした、時に奇抜な。古い物を好む人が使用する際には軽蔑的な含意を持つことがある。
Newfangled describes something that is very new and different from traditional ways. It often suggests slight doubt or dislike, as if the new thing is fashionable but maybe unnecessary.

中英語 newefangel にさかのぼり、new と「つかみたがる」を表す -fangel（ゲルマン祖語 *fanglon 由来）から成る。直訳すると「新しい物にすぐ飛びつく」で、そこから「目新しい・流行かぶれの」意味になった。関連語に fang, fangled。
Newfangled goes back to Middle English newefangel, built from new and an old element meaning "eager to take or seize." The original idea was someone quick to grab at new things, and from there it developed into the sense of being overly fond of novelty or fashionably new. It is related to old forms such as fangled and, more distantly, fang in its older sense of "grasping" or "taking."
