nizam の語源・成り立ち Etymology
nizam はアラビア語 niẓām「秩序・統治・制度」がペルシア語・ウルドゥー語を経て英語に入った語です。もとは「整える」という発想の語で、そこからインドの君主号ニザームの意味になったと考えると納得しやすいです。関連語は nizamat, نظم。
Nizam entered English through Persian and Urdu usage, ultimately deriving from Arabic niẓām, meaning “order, arrangement, system, or administration.” The Arabic noun is associated with the idea of putting things into an ordered sequence. In South Asian political usage, the word became established as a title connected with governance. English uses it especially for the hereditary rulers of Hyderabad under the Asaf Jahi dynasty, rather than as a general title for every Indian prince.
