oases は oasis の複数形。oasis はギリシャ語 oasis を経て、さらにエジプト語系の wḥꜣt『砂漠の肥えた地』にさかのぼり、oasisless や Oasisamerica も同根。『荒地の中の住める場所』だと分かると像がはっきりする。
