Osteogenesis is the process of forming new bone tissue. It is used in medicine and biology when talking about bone growth, healing, or development. This is a technical term rather than an everyday word.

まず語尾の -genesis を「生成・発生」の型として覚える。genesis は generate, generation と同じ「生まれる」系列で、angiogenesis（血管新生）などにも出る。前半 osteo- は osteoporosis, osteoarthritis などで何度も見る「骨」。つまり osteogenesis は「骨が生まれる過程」。病名ではなく process 名の名詞で、bone formation の専門語として固定すると覚えやすい。ossification は「骨化」の変化寄りで、osteogenesis は新しい骨組織を作る過程全体という違いも意識すると定着する。
