解説 Definition
「枕」とは、就寝時に頭を乗せるための寝具の一つです。柔らかい素材で作られており、快適な睡眠をサポートするために使われます。日本語では「枕を高くして眠る」という慣用句があり、安心して眠れる状態を表すこともあります。

pillow は古英語 pyle に由来し、その奥ではラテン語 pulvinus「クッション、座布団」につながるとされます。pulvinar や pulvinate も同根で、頭をのせる『やわらかなふくらみ』という原像から、枕の意味が育ったと考えると覚えやすい語です。
