practicallyはpractical＋-lyで、practicalはギリシャ語praktikos「行動のための」にさかのぼります。語根prasseinは「行う」の意です。つまり「実際にやる立場で」が原義で、theoryの反対側から「実用的に」「ほとんど実質的に」へ広がりました。practiceも同根です。
