pul の語源・成り立ち Etymology
英語のpulはペルシア語 pul「金・小銭」からの借用です。さらにギリシャ語 obolos と同系とされ、関連語に obole があります。もともと小さな硬貨の名だったので、今もアフガン通貨の細かな単位を指します。
Pul was borrowed into English from Persian pul, meaning "money" or "small coin." It is thought to be related to Greek obolos, which also gave English obole. Because it originally named a small coin, the word stayed connected with minor units of currency.
