Radicalisation is the process in which a person or group begins to adopt extreme political, religious, or social beliefs. It is often used in discussions about violence, extremism, or security, and the spelling is British English.
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
radical を知っていれば「急進的・極端な」が土台です。そこに -isation が付くので、「急進的になっていく過程」とまとめて覚えると定着します。名詞ですが、中身は状態ではなく変化のプロセスで、radicalism（急進主義という立場）より“進んでいく動き”が強い語です。ニュースでは online/political/religious radicalisation、prevent/counter radicalisation の形が頻出なので、「人や集団の思想が過激な方向へ傾いていく流れ」を場面ごと覚えると使い分けしやすいです。

radicalisation の語源・成り立ち Etymology
radicalisation は radical + -ise + -ation で、radical はラテン語 radix「根」に由来します。eradicate や radish も同根で、本来は「物事の根まで行くこと」。そこから考えが根本的で妥協しない方向へ進み、過激化の意味になりました。
Radicalisation is formed from radical, the verb-forming ending -ise, and the noun ending -ation. Radical comes from Latin radix, meaning "root," a source also seen in eradicate and radish. What began as the idea of going to the root of something later developed into the sense of becoming more extreme or uncompromising.
