Radicalism is the belief that strong and basic changes are needed in politics, society, or a system. It is often used when people reject gradual reform and want change to happen in a deep or dramatic way. The word can be neutral or negative depending on the context.

まず radical を「過激な」だけでなく「今の仕組みを大きく変えようとする」と押さえると覚えやすいです。radical change, radical reform のように、部分修正ではなく方針ごと入れ替える場面で出ます。そこに -ism が付くと「思想・主義」になるので、radicalism は「急進的に変えるという立場」。単なる anger や violence ではなく、政治・社会の体制変革を求める考え方だと結び付けると定着します。
